Preparing a resume is not as simple as one thinks. It is the intial part of a succesful new job employment. Some may choose to cram all of his/her criteria into a few pages resume. Based on my experience, it is not a god practise, as the reader of your resume may tend to be bored with the long story of candidate. Others may choose to made it as simple as possible. Well, for me, a good resume is the one with simple point based (with one or two summary) which describe you, and do remember to include important points in it. Make it smooth structured and easy for readers to spot the strength that you have. Here are 2 sample of resume that I found from the net, that I amend a little bit, to suit the current trends, which I feel important.

resume-sample-1.doc

resume-sample-2.doc

Hope this will help you in preparing a good resume (CV) and good luck with your application.

In today current economic crisis where a number of graduates and unemployed increasing tremendously, job seekers must be creative to attract employer to select you as a candidates being short listed.

If you are still stuck on the habit of searching job ads on the newspaper then you are certainly missing the great wonder of technology and Internet that makes job search easy, convenient and successful. Through the idea of postings your resume online, you are into great career opportunities that would come to your way. Here are the 5 essential guides on posting resume online.

1. Resume Posting is a service where job seekers post their resumes to an online job search site for employers and recruiters to find. Employers or recruiters usually find you within the resume database, of an online job search site, using key words will put up the chances for most of the applicants to find easily by the employers and finally call for a job interview. However it depends on how you select appropriate keywords for your resume and remember that this service is usually offered free for job seekers.
2. Use a word processing programs such as MS Word that have basic and advanced tools to create and format your resume. You should also create an electronic friendly version of your resume by making a back up data in MS Word based resume to a Notepad. The former application will convert your resume into ASCII text which allows your resume to be read in email format.
In order to ensure that the employers can find you, your resume should contain key words that is strongly related to the position that you are applying for.

3. The primary advantage of posting your resume online is that your resume will be available to a wide array of employers and recruiters in the shortest period of time. Presumably, you will gain access to a large number of job opportunities compared to the access you will have by viewing employment advertisements, company web sites, employment web sites or the newspapers. And it is easy, fast and rather practical.

4. The biggest advantage of online resume posting is also its biggest disadvantage because it makes your resume along with your personal information available to the public. It can result to numerous phone calls from headhunters, agencies, employment consultants or even telemarketers. Its a reminder for everyone to not give too much personal information in their resume online, be careful and wisely before putting any remarks that might become a problem.

5. You should choose your resume bank wisely. Some offers their service for free while others have a monthly free. Aside from the service cost, you should consider the scope of the service that you choose. Some resume bank offers national exposures while others might be run by professional association or network of businesses. Weigh in the pro’s and con’s before finally submitting your resume online to avoid regrets at the end.
Posting resume online through resume banks or job search sites will certainly help you form a wide network in your career search. The key reminders are: prepare a strong resume, search for the best resume bank based on your needs, post your electronic resume and prepare yourself for the great career opportunities that awaits you. Build a confident before and after meeting with an employer and be sure to take all the charges when it comes to present yourself professionally and elegantly.

CHRONOLOGICAL

Definition:

The chronological resume is prepared by job titles with the most recent position listed first.

How Employer See:

Employers preferred the chronological resume as the format will lists prior positions at the earlier part (most current). Employers recognize such resume style as fact-based and easily scanned.

When to use:

Job seekers equipped with concrete experiences and a logical job history will have better advantage with such format compared to career jumpers and those who lack formal on-the-job experience (like new graduates) find this resume the most difficult to write.

.

CURRICULUM VITAE

Definition:

Under this format, the resume is known as a detailed, lengthy and structured listing of education, publications, projects, awards and work history. Curriculum vitae for a mid-career candidate may be as long as twenty pages.

How Employer See:

Rather than a resume, a curriculum vita (mostly known asC.V. or Vita) is required for certain positions such as educators and scientists.

When to use:

Job seekers equipped with broad academic and professional qualifications applying for positions in education or research. Check with an advisor or others in your field if you are unsure whether a C.V. or a resume is expected.

.

FUNCTIONAL

Definition:

The functional resume reorganizes employment history into sections that highlight areas of skill and accomplishment.

How Employer See:

Some employers do not prefer functional resumes, as they will find it difficult to match up skills with actual job titles, level of responsibility and dates of experience. You should avoid or minimize this objection by including the company name in the “bullet” describing each accomplishment.

When to use:

The functional resume might be thought of as a problem solving format. It gives you freedom to fit your work history and match up skills and accomplishments that might not be obvious to the employer in a traditional chronological format.

A resume is the first vital tool that an HR personal will look into, whether to include the candidate to their short list or not. They will normally go for the superior one, which they feel reflects they owner of it. Resume can be in any format, but how do we create a good one. Here are some tips of how to create a desirable resume.

1. Start with a ‘Powerful Statement’
Most of resume writers assume that resume should start with an objective. Not to say that it is not true, but doesn’t it will better if we start it with a power statement that will get the attention of the person who reads it. Here is an example, ‘An Experienced Processor with excellent computer skills and able to work independently.’ Doesn’t it strike the reader’s mind to impatiently find out what is so special about the candidate?

2. Keep it brief and short.
HR personnel normally spend a few seconds (15-20 seconds) on a resume. So we should not expect that they will get the full picture of the candidates. The shorter the resume, the more desirable it will be. Try to write the whole thing in one page.

3. Put the best criteria about you at the upper half of your resume.
If your experience is far better than other criteria, put it on top. If your achievement is the best, put it up and same goes to your academic status. Why is this important? Again, normally the reader does not have much time to read the whole resume. The first part will be the vital part that they will normally go through.

4. Always check your spelling. Make sure that are perfectly correct.
Depending on word auto checker is not enough. You will have to check them manually at least 3 times, and it is better to include an additional reading it backward. Sometimes, this will help to detect error.

5. Try to use as many specific symbols as possible.
The specific symbol means using numbers, figures and percentages when they are required. Try to avoid using spelling of this character when actually you can use a simple symbol.

6. Try to put yourself into Employer’s Shoe.
Try to write what your potential employer want to read, what you can offer for them and eventually they will seek candidates that have potential in solving problems.

No matter how you want to write your resume, do remember the power of sincerity and do not ‘over express them’.

Fashion designer Coco Chanel had a personal rule: Before she left the house, the style icon always removed one piece of her ensemble to avoid the faux-pas of wearing too many accessories. Were Chanel alive today and working as a hiring manager, she would likely offer similar advice to job seekers: You don’t have to include everything.

Job seekers do themselves a disservice when they send out résumés with more information than they need. Most employers don’t have the time or patience to sift through the irrelevant details. Here are 10 things your résumé could do without:

1. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
“If you are careless enough to send out this most important document with a mistake…I immediately assume you’ll never care enough about the work you send out representing my company,” says Jose Bandujo, president of New York-based Bandujo Advertising. He recalls one candidate who misspelled Manhattan, despite having worked in the city for a decade and another whose great educational background didn’t compensate for the fact that he couldn’t spell “education.”

2. Opening objectives.
“These are generic…They do nothing to differentiate one candidate from another,” says Donna Flagg, president of The Krysalis Group, a human resource and management consulting firm in New York.

3. Personal attributes.
Listing personal information such as height, weight and age and providing photographs is a pet peeve for Heather Mayfield, vice president of training and operations for Snelling Staffing Services. “It is amazing that we still see this on the résumés of today, but they are out there.”

4. Interests and hobbies.
If these points of information don’t pertain to the job in question, there’s no need to include them. “Create a mystery and save these kinds of data points when you start the job,” advises Roy Blitzer, author of “Hire Me, Inc.: Résumés and Cover Letters that Get Results.”

5. Details of every task you’ve ever performed in every job you’ve ever had.
“It’s too much information. Managers and recruiters need to know at-a-glance what makes a candidate special,” Flagg says. Focus on those details that pertain to the job for which you’re applying.

6. Excessive bragging.
Stating one’s accomplishments can be helpful, but when it’s overdone, the candidate can come across as narcissistic, a huge turnoff for employers, Flagg says.

7. Outdated information.
Leave off the activities that you did in high school if graduation was a few years ago and omit jobs you held 10 or more years ago, as the information is probably irrelevant to the position you’re trying for now.

8. False information.
“Putting [that you have] a B.S. on a résumé when you do not have one is ‘BS,’” jokes Stephen Viscusi, author of “On the Job: How to Make it in the Real World of Work.” Not only is lying on a résumé unfair and dishonest, it’s also not very intelligent. “Companies verify dates of employment – often after you start. If you have lied, they fire you…Nobody wants to hire a liar. Nobody.”
